Cooling towers and cooling stations – a system used for the rapid cooling of large quantities of water. The coolant is directed air flow. Alternative product name – cooling tower. Today it is the most effective installation, allowing to reduce the temperature of liquids in circulating water-cooling systems.

The tower provides proper air draft for cooling and natural output of heated air masses that rise from the cooling tower.

Principle of operation
The process of lowering the temperature of liquids in tanks occurs due to partial evaporation of water vapor, which is in contact with air. Water flows through the irrigator, around which powerful turbulence passes. When the system operates, the following principle applies: evaporation of 1% of water quenches the temperature of the remaining liquid by 6 degrees Celsius.

Loss of cooler replenished external tanks. If necessary, the water is filtered.

Cooling tower types
The principle of air circulation can be divided into several types of installations:

* fan (cooling reverse air flow);

* tower (spraying hot liquid nozzles on a special surface from which the liquid flows with thin films. Slow flow cools the water);

* ejection (spraying on special channels and natural air intake).

By irrigation type:

* drip;

* film;

* spray.

Separately, I would like to highlight the “dry” cooling towers, or drycoolers, used at TPPs and NPPs for operational cooling of all key components of the station.

In all cases, water somehow contacts with the air, giving up its heat, and then returns to the system to re-cool the heat exchangers and other devices.

Cooling Tower Operating Conditions
Exhaust towers are operated in difficult conditions, since the walls on the outside are regularly exposed to cold air and precipitation (rain, snow). Inside, the temperature is much higher, which contributes to the formation of wet steam and condensate.

The choice of material for such structures is of paramount importance, since it is necessary to take into account regular differences and temperature differences, ensuring stable operation of the installations.
