Induction Furnace – Principle of Operation

An induction furnace for melting metal is a kind of transformer:

  • The primary winding type is water cooled inductor;
  • The secondary type of winding – the load is in the crucible;
  • Conductor – remelting steel.

Raw materials are melted by Foucault currents arising under the action of electromagnetic fields generated by an inductor. This principle allows to melt an unlimited amount of steel without the use of auxiliary heat sources. This method of smelting is also good because at the output, the resulting product is practically devoid of additional impurities and retains a uniform composition.
